Colors Fill the Skies in Alabel’s First Kite Festival
Butterflies, dragonflies, and eagles in huge sizes and bright colors hovered above the Goldenboy Farm in Alabel two hot summer days of May. People flock to see these colorful creatures adorning the town’s skies. But it was different when the fishes, a boat, a giant squid, airplanes, and even a huge box started to fly. They roused a cheery applause from the audience of the first Goldenboy Herrera Kite Festival, May 8 and 9, 2014.
Kite enthusiasts from the neighboring provinces and cities and even from Luzon gathered at the three-hectare flyzone in Alabel, Sarangani Province to showcase their masterpieces and, of course, to win the grand prize — a whopping Php 50,000.00 in cold cash, tax free!
In the early morning of May 8, young kids tagged along their parents or older sibling to register to the kids and teens categories.

The second day, May 9, was a fiercer competition. It was really a battle of the sizes and designs as adults try to outdo their competitors . Despite the lack of wind that day, the kites did not fail to entertain the eager audience, most of them witnessed a kite festival for the first time.
